Things to do in Playa del Carmen
The Paradise within your Second Home
Did you know that the Riviera Maya is situated
within the Top 5 Mexican Destinations to visit? But that is not really much of
a surprise, is it? This, the place you get to call your home away from home, is
a paradise.
Let me explain myself here. There are about a
gazillion things to explore, and visit while you are in this magical
destination. Let’s begin with the easiest, and most common: 5th
Avenue.
The Famous 5th Avenue
For those of you, who are new in Playa del
Carmen, 5th Avenue is our most visited tourist spot, a major strip
full of lively restaurants, bars, and shops. As touristy as it may sound, it
does not leave the Mexican essence aside. You can enjoy a delicious meal while
listening to some Mariachis play right on your tableside! While this is the
most popular spot in Playa del Carmen, there are so many more to visit. Have
you considered visiting one of our Riviera Maya’s attraction parks, such as
Xcaret or Xel-Ha? You can actually book a trip with them at the hotel with your
VIP Concierge, and even get a Royal Elite Member discount. These parks are
mostly in naturally preserved areas, so expect to be in touch with nature and
its surroundings, while still having a blast.
Cenotes
Another option is our famous “cenotes”. A
cenote is basically a sinkhole, with crystal clear water, very typical in this
area. They are incredibly refreshing to swim at, and some of them even have a
cliff to jump from which makes the experience even more fun. Many people like
to kayak or snorkel in as well, since there are other fish species and
organisms that live in that environment. Plus, the surroundings are beautiful,
and very traditional. Mayans originally used to do sacrifices in these cenotes,
and they have a lot of history if you decide to dig in for some information. We
recommend you ask your VIP Concierge as well, so you can schedule a tour, and
that way you do not have to worry about transportation.
Xoximilco
Now, going back to the attraction sites, there
is one in specific that is fairly new, and you can do so at nighttime, which
works perfectly since most activities in this area are during the day. Allow me
to introduce you to “Xoximilco”. Have you heard about the gondolas in Venice?
Well, this is 10x better (and more Mexican!). It basically consists on a boat
ride, in which the more people that are in it, the merrier. You will make a few
stops to listen to Mariachis, drink tequila, and eat various Mexican dishes,
such as “mole”, “huitlacoche”, and even a few insects that are impossible to
translate into the English language. You will have a guide at all times and he
will make sure you are all having a great time.
These are only a few things you can do while
visiting Playa del Carmen. Remember, if you want to know more about any spots
in particular, feel free to contact us through our social media and ask, or if
you are at any Sandos Hotel, just walk up to your Concierge and ask. They will
sure give you plenty of recommendations.
We hope to see you soon!
